Combine 3 tea bags and 8 oz water in a shaker. Let steep for 1 minute or gently muddle tea bags for 30 seconds. Remove tea bags.
Add 1 oz sweetener or 4 pumps of simple syrup (optional). Add ice to the tea until the shaker is about 3/4 full. Securely close the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 15-30 seconds. Strain the tea into a 16 oz cup and top off with ice.
